Chelsea 2011 day 2,

Sunday 8 May 2011

The day started very cloudy, its been raining through the night but not enough to cause any problems. Work continues a pace with our main focus being the mill structure. Scaffolding installed at around 10:00 am, so on with the next section. Our trademark internal steel framework is a real advantage as it makes building really easy to get on with building, no foundations needed. For those who are following our progress on the web you may have seen photos, Neil, our fabrication engineer makes a steel framework with a large steel

. This means that we can start building off the steel plate without the need for foundations brilliant! By the end of the day we have almost three quarters of the stonework fior the mill completed and all being well we should see the stoneworkfinished tomorrow. No deliveries today which is good as storage is a challenge, with twenty show gardens you can imagine the chaos, lots of big machinery and a constant stream of delivery wagons. By the end of the day we have the stone lintels over the main door and window and the upper mill doors installed. Stonework is almost to the top of these doors and is looking fantastic. Its amazing how you can see the garden evolving We can start to visualise how the construction elements will interact with the planting, making notes of what we need to do, how and where the ferns and mosses will be planted in the rock work and and building around the waterwheel, especially where the water will splash. Opposite our garden there is a two storey restaurant with a small balcony, We managed to find a way up to the balcony and have taken photos from there, it will be a great place to take photos of the finished garden. Another delivery tomorrow rockwork stone mainly, then Monday the first 10 metre tree, now that will be fun to install, another two to follow on Tuesday. We have worked very closely with Majestic who supplied the specimen trees and will be using our combined skills to install what we think will be the largest trees here.

Hope all is well back in Leeds.
